Carpe diem

With my busy work schedule during the week, my weekends have been spent catching up on chores instead of enjoying my only days off. Yesterday I woke up with boring plans to do cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping. What a dreadful way to spend a day off! Thankfully, my friend J saved me from my boring responsible self when she texted me suggesting that we road trip out to the archipelago for lunch. I scratched all my plans in a heartbeat and headed out to meet her.

Bullandö krog tuna Caesar salad

We drove out to Bullandö and sat down to lunch at Bullandö krog. I ordered the grilled tuna Caesar salad, I’d never had tuna like this before so I knew I had to try it when I saw it on the menu. The salad was HUGE, but good.

Gelato at Bullandö glassfabrik

After lunch we knew exactly where to go – Bullandö glassfabrik (Bullandö ice cream factory) for gelato!

Licorice and coconut gelato from Bullandö Glassfabrik

I opted for coconut and licorice gelato with a side of coffee. Oh, I was a happy camper indeed. The gelato was absolutely fantastic, and the licorice flavor was especially good. J and I both agreed that next time we’ll skip lunch and go straight for the gelato.

Buddhist temple

Content with our culinary experiences, we hopped in the car to head to a farm nearby but got sidetracked on the way and ended up at a Buddhist temple. This was such a random experience, we were welcomed inside to sit on the floor and talk to a Buddha seated in front of us. The buddhas and nuns at the temple kept offering us food, coffee and tea. One of the buddhas also asked for our email adresses so he could invite us to their parties.

Shrine at Buddhist temple

We walked around the area and found golden Buddha statues and shrines surrounded by flowers and other offerings. There was a little elephant figure inside this little house.

Bracelet gifted by the Buddhist temple

The buddha we talked to gave us these bracelets as a gift, I really like it!

We got to the farm in the end, just in time for the rain to start pouring down. I had a wonderful time, as always when I hang out with J. Yesterday gave proof once again that seizing the day by doing things that make you smile is a much more worthwhile activity on a day off than getting rid of that pile of chores ever will be.

What an exciting day you had! Especially visiting the Buddhist temple! Is it far from your house to visit frequently?
