Starbucks is coming to Sweden!

STARBUCKS OPENS IN SWEDEN. One of the most buzzed about pieces of news this past week is that Starbucks is (finally) coming to Sweden. For years fashionistas have been craving the world famous coffee chain that gained popularity after celebrity style icons like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan were seen with the trademark Starbucks takeaway-cups seemingly glued to their fists. It’s even been seen on the runway as Dsquared accessorized their models with Starbucks cups for their A/W 2009 show.

And while things aren’t going too well for Starbucks on the other side of the pond (around 1000 Starbucks have shut down in the US because the chains popularity has dwindled) the coffee chain has chosen to expand to new countries and open at Arlanda airport right outside Stockholm in the beginning of next year.

While I’ve had the opportunity to get Starbucks during my visits to the US (and while living in Prague) I often opt for other coffee chains because I think Starbucks is way overpriced. And I always remember my uncle joking about Starbucks being like rocket fuel, apparently it’s an excellent laxative. No doubt the secret behind how Hollywood stars stay skinny.

What’s your take – Starbucks, yay or nay?

Kanye West is a jackass!

This weekend, during the MTV Video Music Awards, country singer Taylor Swift won a moonman for best video. During her thank you speech Kanye West ran up and grabbed the mic away from Swift to give a shoutout to Beyonce who he said “has one of the best videos of all time!”

Seriously, what a jerk! What is his problem!? That guy seriously needs to step down from the little throne he’s put himself on. Like he’s somebody. Pfft!

Word, Obama, word!

Nothing new Balmain?

Since Fashtastic is a fashion blog (or at least originally was, before I chose to be a little more personal in this blog) I thought it’s about time I comment on one of my favorite fall collections.

Balmain is always one of the first collections I check each season because it’s often very much “my style” – the short dresses, the edgy styles and the high heels. I loved the spring collection this year and Christophe Decarnin doesn’t seem to have developed the line much for this fall. The spiky shoulders, bold sequins and studs are still there. I still think this is a hot collection, but I have to say it would have been fun to see something not so similar to the last collection this new season.

And speaking of fall collections, some runway trends are definitely sticking out – sequins are still big (as always), harem pants or “baggy” pants (if you will) are also popular as well as the always as appreciated art of layering (big scarves, warm gloves and hats etc.) More on that in a later though…

LdB Body Soufflé

I got these adorable body lotions from LdB today. They’re dubbed “Body Soufflé” and come in three lucious fragrances that will hit shops in August (they’ll be sold at Åhléns in Sweden, among other places). Each soufflé is neatly packed in a pretty box with a ribbon on top.

I opened up the one titled “Red Rose” to give it a wiff and although this particular fragrance was a little too strong for my liking I’m still going to give these cuties my thumbs up because I think they’re perfect as a gift to bring to a friend’s dinner party or to give your girlfriend for her birthday. They’re set to be priced around 89 SEK.

This is what is hiding inside the cute package.

How cool is this? – Lady Gaga’s new video for her song Paparazzi has been created with the help of a couple of Swedes! Jonas Åkerlund is the producer and Alexander Skarsgård  is in the video. Gaga is even speaking Swedish in it! Check it out at Perez Hilton’s blog.

Another bag that’s not plastic

Remember back in 2007 when Anya Hindmarch designed an organic tote with the message “I’m not a plastic bag” splashed across the front? It sold for just £5 and people went crazy to get their hands on one.

Fast forward two years and Sweden may see a similar event soon to take place. The Swedish grocery store chain ICA have asked the designers behind Dagmar to create an organic tote to encourage the use of re-usable bags instead of plastic bags.

The bag will hit ICA-stores in August this year in a limited edition of 70,000 bags. The price is set to 89 SEK (69 SEK for ICA-members) and 12,50 SEK of each sale will go WWF’s work in improving our climate.

I always carry with me my re-usable bags in my purse so that I never have to buy or use plastic bags. These are fantastic and people often ask where I’ve got them! The brown I got from the people at Purebar, the red one was a gift and the small white with black text I got a long time ago at an event, it’s by Les Coleurs Nationales.

There’s no denying that Robert Pattinson (star of the Twilight movies) is a catch, but how much would you be willing to pay for a meet-and-greet and a kiss on the cheek? Apparently, some would dish out a lot.

Pattinson offered himself up for auction at the amfAR Cinema against AIDS fund and the battle to get a close encounter with the hottie ended with two bidders offering twenty-thousand-dollars each!

How much would you be willing to pay for a close encounter with your celebrity crush?

Beckmans fashion show 2009

Designs by Frida Ringström (The Foam Rubber Collection)  and Sofia Palm (The Butterfly Effect)

Students at Beckmans Design College in Sweden showed their final designs in a fashion show this afternoon at Berns in Stockholm. It’s always interesting to see what the students come up with since they are some of Swedens freshest and most promising fashion designers.

There always seems to be at least one student that uses slightly unexpected materials (ducttape, rubber, plastic etc.). This year Frida Ringström, with her “The Foam Rubber Collection”, was the student who chose to work with unconventional materials and by doing so created one of the shows most applauded and, in fact, interesting collections.
