Cuddle up with candles

One of the first things I do every day when I get home is light my candles, I’ve got one that smells of cinnamon and one that smells of “Oatmeal Cookie”. Lighting candles is one of the best things about dark and cold fall evenings.

The girl behind the camera

I’m proud to say that tomorrow, I’ll be working with the very talented fashion photographer responsible for the stunning photos above. I can’t wait!

You’ve gotta have options!

Jewelry from Cocoo.se, SNÖ of Sweden, Friis&Company and Didi

One of the most important things when working as a stylist is to always have options. It doesn’t matter how much you love one item, nothing says it’s going to work (or fit) when the day of the shoot comes. So it’s better to have too much than too little and find yourself with little or no options when the shirt, dress or skirt you that looked fabulous on the rack looks like a mess on the model.

Above is some of the jewelry I have borrowed for the shoot on Sunday. The girl I am styling is a neosoul artist and the style we’re going for is kind of ethno/african/soul-ish. Think Lauryn Hill/India Arie. The girl I’m styling doesn’t like gold jewelry, so as you can see I’ve chosen silvers over golds and mixed in some earthy tones and colors so I have options for spicing things up if I need to.

I’ve also got somewhere between 50-80 tops and dresses to work with. So like I said, a lot of options so that I’ll be able to put together something that satisfies both me and the artist (client) on Sunday.

(Do you like posts like this? Do you want me to tell you more about my styling work?)

A full day’s work!

Some of the clothes (and jewelry) I have borrowed for the photo shoot on Sunday!

I am really looking forward to the photo shoot on Sunday. As mentioned, I’m styling an up-and-coming artist for her CD cover and booklet. My new boss and friend, Martina, who is a fashion photographer will be shooting, and it’s the first time I’ll be working with her. It’s going to be so much fun!

Martina and I are already in talks about doing another shoot together in the Spring. We’re collecting inspiration photos for a future shoot and sharing ideas of what we would like to do.

Before work this morning I had three meetings with PR offices to borrow clothes. I stopped by Cocoo.se first and had a nice chat with Coco that runs the online jewelery shop and now also a boutique and showroom that opened not too long ago. She’s got so much awesome stuff at great prices. I borrowed a lot of great stuff from her.

After my quick meeting with Coco I grabbed the bus to the next PR office and managed to cram a third meeting and a quick run by my sister’s job to say hi to her before I had to head in to work and work all day, I just got home about an hour ago. I’ve collected a ton of great options now for the artist I’m styling and I can’t wait to put everything together on Sunday!

I’ll show you a closer look at some of the stuff in another post soon!

Everything happens for a reason

I like to think that everything happens for a reason, and I try to constantly remind myself of that and take note of situations where one thing wouldn’t have happened without the other.

A lot of things have happened lately that have had me thinking about how different everything could have been if I had chosen a different path, even the slightest bit different. That’s what makes you understand the meaning of “you can’t change history”, cause if you were to go back and change even the slightest little thing in history, you would come back to current time in a completely different place. And it could be so much worse than where you are now.

People often talk about that they wish they could go back in time and un-do a bad relationship, or stop themselves from embarassing themselves, or in one way or another go back and do things in a different way – in a better way. But doing so would change everything. Going back and un-doing that nasty relationship or preventing yourself from making a fool of yourself would then put you in a different situation currently, maybe you’d be just as miserable – or moreso, because you undid your past mistakes and left nothing to learn from.

It’s an interesting thing to consider.

It’s also hard to imagine seeing your future, because if you actually were to see your future one day, then it’s no longer your future because you are likely to do something in current time to either change a part of the future you have seen or reach that future, and if you try (as opposed to just letting things happen the way they were meant to), you’ll likely fail and your future will end up different than what you saw.

So live now. In this moment. Right here. Learn from it. And enjoy every second of it. Because in a second it’s history, and then you can’t go back and change it.

Lipsy dresses!

I stopped by a PR office today after work to pick up some clothes for the photo shoot on Sunday. I found a ton of pretty dresses and tops from Lipsy that I borroed. I love that they’re all within a reasonable price range and all the clothing is made with “real” materials – real silk, chiffon, leather etc. None of the fake plastic stuff.

After browsing Lispy.co.uk I’ve found a bunch of great dresses I’d love to shop for myself. A New Years Eve dress perhaps? Many of the items are very Balmain-inspired, I love it!

Be here now.

Just wanted to post a quick update – this week is insane (as mentioned). I’ve got meetings every single day and I’m working every day. Tomorrow I’ve got to go over some things with the artist I’m styling for her CD-cover shoot on Sunday. I’m working on Thursday and then I have a meeting with a press office in the evening. On Friday I have crammed in three meetings with press offices in the morning before work. And that’s really only half of all the things I have to do. Hah, crazy.

I had a blast at work today with my co-worker Linda, she cracks me up! We always have a good time together. We’ve been working side-by-side for almost three months now and we’re not sick of eachother yet, and I don’t think we ever will be! We talk about everything and share a lot of laughs. She and I are so alike too, we have the same way of working so we often finish what the other person started. Gossiping and talking about guys is also a favorite of mine because Linda usually has some great input on my little love problems! Haha…

Anyway, I’m off to enjoy my evening… I’ll write again soon!

P.S How do you like the colorful cats (above)? I love Tim Walker, he’s an amazing photographer!

I have been crazy busy this weekend and it doesn’t stop there. I am literally one foot out the door while writing this. I have to run and meet up with the artist I’ll be styling for her CD cover shoot next week (so excited!), we’re going to go over some ideas and see which direction she wants to go with the styling.

After my meeting I have to run some errands before hurrying home to do some writing work and then I’m out the door again to go to dinner this evening. Tomorrow morning is work as usual, early, and then I have to run to some press offices to borrow clothes. I’m going to be going 24/7 next week. My calendar is so cluttered with meetings, appointments and “To do’s” that I can’t fit anything more in!

Will try to write again soon!

xx beautiful people!

Get your drank on?

I have so much to do this weekend. But first things first. I have to decide what I’m doing tonight! Drinks with a friend of mine are sort of/half on the agenda right now. It’s hanging in the air right now and depends on my friend. He’s sitting having dinner with another friend right now and is going to text when he’s done with that, but it might not be done until late this evening so it could be a yes or a no as far as having drinks this evening goes.

The second option is lighting candles, taking a long bath and reading a book. Does sound awefully tempting this chilly friday evening after a long day of work (and before a hectic weekend full of more work and play). Hmm… decisions, decisions…

Photo shoot!

It’s a busy week! There’s work and I just got news from my boss that we’re doing a photo shoot together for a new artist. It’s going to be awesome! I can’t wait to get to work with my boss who is a fantastic fashion photographer (aside from being my boss and friend). I’ve got a lot of planning to do before the shoot because it’s already next week. I’ll probably be meeting with the artist some time this or next week to hear her thoughts on what she wants to do.

This weekend we’re doing Thanksgiving dinner here, I know it’s a bit early but when you’re inviting about ten people you have to try to synchronize everyone’s schedules and shoot for the best day, even if it’s not on actual Thanksgiving. My mom even invited S to come for Thanksgiving. He did love my mom’s cooking so we’ll see if it’s enough to have him fly over here for another piece of her pie!

I’ll write more asap, gotta head off to work now!
